SUBJECT: PTA Newsletter 2/13

Feel the love

This coming week is all about love. LOOOOOOVVVEEEE. The love we have for one another, the love we have for our school, and the love we have for all of the families that make up Tuscan. And maybe, in addition to that, the love we have for chocolate. So. Much. Chocolate.

The next generation

Already have a Tuscan Tiger but also have a budding one? Registration for the 2022/23 Kindergarten class opens on February 23. All information about registering your child can be found here.

Beyond the school day

Finally, our young builders, lego lovers, artists, scientists, and well, our kids, can sign up for extra-curricular classes through Beyond The Bell on February 15 (Tuesday). The blue forms went home in backpacks on Friday, but do not fret if your child didn’t get one or that your dog ate it! You can register and pay online here. Registration opens at 7am, so be sure to get your computer fired up by 6:45am… spots go fast.

Sharing the love (and warmth)

It’s been a cold winter. On Tuesday (February 15), SOMA Shares will be distributing winter coats for anyone who needs them at no cost. Students or their adults can pick up the coats next from 8:15am - 9am in two locations on the Tuscan property: the front entrance and the side entrance by the teacher's parking lot. For questions about giving or receiving coats, email somashareseveryday@gmail.com.

Show your spirit love

On February 15 is Spirit Day at Tuscan. If you need new gear, T-shirts, sweatshirts (in youth and adult sizes!), pop-its, and magnets are available online.

The news you've been waiting for...

Tickets for the CHS stage performance of Newsies will go on sale on February 15 (A LOT IS HAPPENING ON TUESDAY) at 9am. Shows are March 11-12 & 18-19 at 7:30pm, and March 13 & 20 at 2:00pm. All sales will be online until three hours before curtain time (any remaining tickets will be sold on site). Ticket cost is $12, $15 or $20 based on location, and be sure to zoom the screen out to see the balcony seats. Tickets can be bought here. Can’t make it? There will be an option to view a recorded show after the live show dates, with streaming dates still to be determined.

Celebrate Black History Month

Black History Month celebrations continue in Maplewood. From virtual book discussions to in-person discussions about art and beyond, you can find everything you need to know here and here. All events are free and open to everyone.

It’s the year of the Tiger!

February 1 marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year, and the Year of the Tiger. Looking to make a trip into the city? Head to Chinatown on February 20 for the Chinatown Lunar New Year parade and festival. Info on that can be found here.

Love to read minutes?

Did you miss the February meeting? Here are the minutes. We’d love to see you at the March/April meeting (combined to meet scheduling challenges due to conferences, Spring holidays and Spring Break) on Wednesday, March 30 at 7:30 pm via this Zoom link.

Tune into SEPAC

On February 16 at 7:30pm, Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) SOMA will hold a virtual panel discussion alongside the Schools Committee of the Community Coalition on Race on Black Family Voices and Special Education in SOMSD. Interested? It’s open to everyone. Find out how to sign up for its newsletter and to get updates here.

For 2022

We need your stories! We want to know what’s happening in and around the school. Who is doing something wonderful? We want to write about it! Get in touch via TuscanSchoolPTA@gmail.com.

Join us! Meet us!

Please join the PTA - we’d love to have you. We’ve upgraded our platform designed for PTAs, which will make it easier for you to use and us to operate. Instructions for how to sign up can be found here, but even if you don’t join the PTA (please, please join!), it’s still important to sign up for an account on our new site so that you can have access to information you’ll need.
