SUBJECT: Tuscan PTA newsletter 5/30

We seriously hope that you spent today at the pool/at a BBQ/chilling out/having fun/not getting ready for the week ahead… yet. Speaking of the week ahead, the Walk-A-Thon is this week and oh, boy have we got some amazing fundraising news for you!

Punching Above Our Fundraising Goal

The Walk-A-Thon is this Thursday (if the weather behaves) and we have already surpassed our $20,000 fundraising goal. This is amazing. Thank you to everyone who has raised funds so far for the Tuscan PTA. If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to register your Tuscan Tiger here and reach out to friends and family to make pledges. There are only a few days to go!

Walk-A-Thon Details:

  • When: Thursday, June 2, 9:00 am-11:00 am. (Rain date is June 9.)
  • Where: Students will walk with their teachers on school grounds.
  • What: Each grade will walk for approximately ½ hour. There will be music, water, giveaways, and more!

As a reminder, all students will participate regardless of fundraising status and participants are limited to students and Tuscan staff - unfortunately, spectators are not permitted on school grounds.

Please also check out our sponsors, local and Tuscan-parent-owned businesses, and show them your support: CKO, Little Apple Arts, The Kate Elliott Team, General Co-operative Store, Oh! Canary, and musician Stephane Wrembel. Huge thanks also to Mike Lehrer who will be the event DJ!

Excited about next year? We need you!

The end of the school year is upon us and we’re preparing for next year all at the same time! The more volunteers we have for the Tuscan PTA, the more we can do for our community. There are some amazing folks staying on for next year and others who are ‘graduating’ as their kids move on to middle school. Interested in any of the positions listed below? Please email Ronni @ TuscanPTAPres@gmail.com to express interest. And, while you’re thinking about it - please come to our last PTA meeting of the school year and the election of next year’s officers on Wednesday, June 15 at 7:30 pm via Zoom.

We need:

  • Vice President
  • SEPAC representative
  • Membership chairs
  • Yearbook editor
  • Fundraising
  • Picture day co-chair
  • Teacher appreciation committee
  • 5th grade committee (to organize special events for 5th graders next year)
  • Sunshine committee
Calling families of current K and 1st grade students

We need some volunteers to organize and attend the outdoor social for rising K parents for the in-person Kindergarten Orientation being held on Friday, June 10 this year. There will be multiple sessions and it will look different from years past, but we are so excited it will be in person! While the incoming K children are inside meeting with the teachers, their parents will be outside socializing. We plan to have some spirit wear for sale as well.

The ask: For 4-6 current K parents with flexibility to attend morning and/or afternoon sessions. It would be great to have 4-6 for the morning and also for the afternoon. You'll be:

  • Volunteering to join us on the lawn and purchase and bring some individually wrapped snacks and drinks (funded by the PTA) for the parents of the incoming K students.

  • The PTA has a small budget for this and once we identify parent volunteers, we can explain the budget and reimbursement process.

If you're interested,  please email TuscanPTAPres@gmail.com

SEPAC is back… in June

WHAT'S NEXT?! Looking ahead to summer and next September! Join us on June 9 at 7:30pm to talk with other parents who are navigating IEPs and 504s about what worked this year, what didn't work, and what your hopes are going forward. Join here. Interested in becoming the Tuscan SEPAC representative for next school year? We need your help! Please email TuscanPTAPres@gmail.com with any questions and to raise your hand.

Teacher and Staff Gifting Time!

At the end of each school year, we organize gifts for all our amazing teachers and staff. Please watch for your class coordinators to send a note soon about gifting for your classroom teachers. In addition, the PTA board centrally collects to provide gifts for our ‘specials’ teachers (art, P.E., music, library and Spanish) and staff (including the front office, nurse, admins, academic interventionists, social workers, lunch aides, custodians and crossing guards, etc.) Click here by Friday, June 17 to contribute specifically to the specials teachers and staff gifts.

Let's Get Growing

The Tuscan School garden project will be back (and we need your help!) Kindergarten mom, Jennifer Dugan is planning to start a new garden initiative at our school late summer/early fall - as soon as we have approval and a location to build the garden. Jenn is thrilled to have this opportunity to work alongside our students, teachers, families and community in such an exciting endeavor. The existing gardens by the portables will no longer remain after school construction is completed, so we have the opportunity to start afresh this coming Fall. Not a gardener? Not a problem! We will need help with everything from garden creation, planning, planting (don’t forget about watering and weeding!), supply sourcing, etc. Any amount of time helps, so please join us and meet the other members of our truly amazing Tuscan School community! If you can volunteer or have questions, please email Jennifer Dugan.

Say thanks

As the end of the school year approaches, don't forget to thank your Tuscan Tiger’s teachers and other staff members who have helped them navigate this year of transition back to in-person learning. Achieve makes it easy to show our dedicated teachers, administrators and support staff how much we value them and all they do for our students and our community.

For a donation of $10/tribute, Achieve will send a Tribute card on your behalf to the recipient(s) of your choice, and new this year – you can send five or more tributes for a flat rate of $50. Just fill out the form found here and we do the rest. Plus your donation to Achieve helps fund next year's educator grants and further our mission of supporting students, families and educators by addressing inequities, inspiring innovation and fostering community. Order yours today!

There are 19 more days of school

But it’s not too late to join the PTA! We’d love to have you. We’ve upgraded our platform designed for PTAs, which will make it easier for you to use and us to operate. Instructions for how to sign up can be found here, but even if you don’t join the PTA (please, please join!), it’s still important to sign up for an account on our new site so that you can have access to the information you’ll need.
